Morocco's largest horse fair, staged over six days on a purpose-built exhibition park outside El Jadida and now in its 17th edition. Its centrepiece is Tbourida, the traditional cavalry charge in which a troupe of riders gallops in line and fires a single synchronised gunpowder volley - judged on precision, not speed. Around it sit Barb and Arab-Barb breed pavilions, show jumping and endurance competitions, craft souks and evening equestrian gala performances.

How to attend
Daily entry to the exhibition park is free or low-cost and open to the public; the evening Nuits Equestres gala shows are ticketed separately and sold online through the official site. Check salonducheval.ma over the summer for the confirmed programme. El Jadida is about 90 minutes by road from Casablanca's Mohammed V airport, and a hire car or driver is the practical way to reach the site. Weekend days carry the main Tbourida finals.
