The biggest ATP Masters 1000 in Asia, played at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena whose eight-panel retractable roof opens like a magnolia, the city flower of Shanghai. The tournament has expanded to a near two-week draw and draws the full men's elite plus a large, young and enthusiastic Chinese crowd. It is the centrepiece of the autumn Asian swing.

How to attend
Open to the public. Tickets sell through the official English-language site and Chinese platforms such as Damai, with sales opening in mid-summer. Early-round grounds tickets are inexpensive while finals and Diamond-tier seats cost far more. Overseas fans can also buy ATP Experiences hospitality packages. Reach Qizhong via metro line 5 to Xinzhuang then a shuttle, or take a taxi allowing an hour from central Shanghai.
Insider tip
The venue is out in Minhang district roughly an hour from the Bund, so buy an early-round grounds ticket and make a full day of it rather than trying to combine a session with city sightseeing.
