The national finals of Chilean rodeo, the country's official national sport, held in the crescent-shaped Medialuna Monumental at Rancagua. Two huasos ride as a pair, a collera, working a steer along the padded arena wall and pinning it at marked points for score - a discipline about horsemanship and timing rather than speed. The stands are loud, partisan and dressed for the occasion, with parallel festivals of cueca, crafts and food filling the surrounding streets.
