How to attend
Entirely free to view from the old-town streets - no tickets exist. Arrive early for the karakuri marionette performances (held twice daily if weather allows) and stay for the lantern-lit evening procession on the 14th. The dates are fixed every year, so the only real constraint is booking accommodation months ahead.
No ticket exists - the floats, the marionette performances and the lantern procession are all free to watch from the old-town streets.
Insider tip
Stay the night - most tour groups leave before the yomatsuri evening procession, when the floats glide through the old town hung with hundreds of lit lanterns.
