Bregenz Festival, Bregenz, Austria, Jul 22 - Aug 23, 2026 (La traviata on the lake stage; 80th anniversary)

Opera on the world's largest floating stage, where oversized sets rise straight out of Lake Constance and the audience watches from a lakeside amphitheatre of nearly 7,000 seats. The 2026 - 27 lake production is Verdi's La traviata, staged by Damiano Michieletto in a Roaring Twenties world, in the festival's 80th anniversary summer. The spectacle at dusk is unlike anything else in opera.

Insider tip

If storms force the show into the Festspielhaus only higher ticket categories are guaranteed indoor seats, so weigh the cheap benches against that risk and pack warm layers regardless.
