Þjóðhátíð Vestmannaeyjar
Þjóðhátíð Vestmannaeyjar takes place Jul 30 - Aug 2, 2027 (always the weekend of the first Monday in August) in Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland. The dress code is Rugged and warm - waterproof jacket, warm layers and solid boots for camping in a windy volcanic valley. Practicality over style entirely. Typical cost ranges from 350 to 800 EUR per person.

Iceland's largest festival, held in the Herjolfsdalur valley on the Westman Islands over the August long weekend, when a large slice of the nation crosses to a volcanic island for four days. The valley fills with a hillside of white tents, a bonfire on the cliff, fireworks and mass singalongs led from the stage. It is a communal outdoor tradition dating to 1874 rather than a commercial music festival.

How to attend
Buy the full festival wristband, around ISK 27,900 (roughly EUR 180 - 190), through dalurinn.is or tix.is. Reach Heimaey on the Herjolfur ferry from Landeyjahofn (about 35 minutes) or by short flight from Reykjavik. Book the ferry crossing the moment wristbands go on sale, as it sells out before the festival does and is the real bottleneck. Camping in Herjolfsdalur is the standard accommodation.
Insider tip
Do not book a hotel and miss the point - the hillside of white tents is the festival, and the Sunday night Brekkusongur singalong with the whole valley holding candles is the reason people come back every year.
