The Everest, Sydney, Australia, Oct 17, 2026 (approx; mid-October Saturday - confirm with the Australian Turf Club)

The world's richest turf race, a 1,200m sprint at Royal Randwick launched in 2017 on a slot model where syndicates buy a place in the field and then choose their runner. That structure gives it a commercial, high-stakes edge unlike any traditional Group 1, and it has become the anchor of the Sydney spring. The crowd is young, loud and fashion-conscious, and the whole day is built around one 70-second race.

How to attend

Buy through the Australian Turf Club. General admission typically starts around the equivalent of EUR 40 - 70, with reserved seating, dining and trackside hospitality substantially higher. Fully open to the public. Royal Randwick is reached by light rail from Circular Quay or a short taxi from the city; book hospitality early as the premium precincts sell out.

Tickets are sold publicly by the Australian Turf Club, but its website turns away every automated request, so no booking page could be confirmed - go to the club's own site and use its Tickets menu.

Insider tip

Royal Randwick is 15 minutes from the CBD on the light rail and walking distance from Coogee and Bondi - build the beach into the day rather than treating it as a standalone trip out of town.
