Cox Plate, Melbourne, Australia, Oct 24, 2026 (at Flemington for the first time while Moonee Valley is redeveloped)

Australasia's premier weight-for-age race over 2,040m and, because the weights are near level, the race purists regard as the truest test of a champion. Its home at Moonee Valley is a famously tight circuit where positioning decides everything, and the twilight timing gives it a distinctive atmosphere. For 2026 it moves to Flemington while The Valley is rebuilt, with a return expected once construction finishes.

How to attend

Buy tickets through the club hosting the meeting - for the 2026 running that is the VRC at Flemington. Confirm the venue for the year you plan to attend, as the redevelopment has moved the race temporarily.

Insider tip

2026 is a one-off - the Cox Plate has never been run anywhere but Moonee Valley before, so this is the only year you can see it on Flemington's wide, galloping straight rather than the tight Valley bullring.
