El Ensayo
El Ensayo takes place Nov 1, 2026 (approx; traditionally the first Sunday of November) in Santiago, Chile. The dress code is Smart daywear. Members' and hospitality areas lean formal with suits, dresses and hats; the general grandstand is relaxed. Typical cost ranges from 10 to 200 EUR per person.

Chile's oldest and most important horse race, first run in 1873 over 2,400m at the Club Hipico de Santiago with the Andes rising directly behind the grandstand. The venue is the draw as much as the race: a Beaux-Arts stand, formal gardens and palm trees in the middle of the city. It is a genuine national occasion with well-dressed members' enclosures and a large, cheerful public crowd on the lawns.

How to attend
General grandstand admission is free or very low cost and open to anyone. Boxes, terraces and hospitality packages are sold in advance through the Club Hipico de Santiago website or box office. No ballot or membership needed for public access. The course is in central Santiago, walkable from Metro Union Latinoamericana, so combine it with a day in the city.
General grandstand entry is free or very cheap and bought on the day at the gate; the Club Hipico website has no online ticket page, so boxes and terraces have to be arranged through the club's box office directly.
Insider tip
Club Hipico's Beaux-Arts grandstand and formal gardens are among the most beautiful racing architecture anywhere - come early, walk the gardens and the paddock before the crowds build.
