Scandinavia's richest flat race, run at Jagersro racecourse in Malmo in mid-July as the centrepiece of the Swedish gallop season. It is the biggest day of the year for Nordic racing, drawing runners from Sweden, Denmark and Norway and a festive local crowd in summer clothes. Low-key, well-organised and genuinely inexpensive compared with anything comparable further south in Europe.

How to attend
Buy tickets via Tickster or svenskgalopp.se, or simply on the day at the gate. General admission is cheap, typically the equivalent of EUR 15 - 25, with restaurant and grandstand tables needing advance booking. Fully open to the public with no ballot or membership. Jagersro is reachable by bus or train from central Malmo in around 15 minutes, and Copenhagen is 25 minutes away by train.
Insider tip
Copenhagen airport is closer to Jagersro than Malmo's own is - the train across the Oresund Bridge takes about 25 minutes, so you can fly into Denmark and be at the track the same morning.
