The Finnish Lapland resort that made the glass igloo famous: thermal glass domes and kelo log suites designed so you can watch the aurora from bed without leaving the duvet. The season runs from roughly the third week of August to the end of April, with the deepest dark from December to March. Days are filled with reindeer safaris, husky rides, ice fishing and a smoke sauna on the lake.

Insider tip
The glass roofs are unheated glass with a defrosting system, so light pollution from your own room ruins the view - turn everything off, including the bathroom light, before you get into bed.
