The original ice hotel, rebuilt from scratch every winter out of blocks harvested from the frozen Torne River, with themed art suites hand-carved by invited sculptors from around the world. Guests sleep on ice beds under reindeer hides at about -5C, drink from carved ice glasses in the Icebar, and wake to a hot sauna and lingonberry juice. A permanent Icehotel 365 wing, cooled by summer solar power, keeps ice art available all year.

How to attend

Book directly at icehotel.com. A guided day tour of the ice art and Icebar costs around SEK 395 (roughly EUR 35) and needs no overnight stay. A standard ice room runs about EUR 300 and an artist-designed art suite roughly EUR 700 - 1,100 per night, both including the thermal kit and morning sauna. It is fully open to the public, but the art suites are the constraint - they are released about a year ahead and the best ones go within weeks.

Insider tip

Almost nobody sleeps two nights on ice. Book one night in an art suite and the next in a warm room on site - you get the experience, the sauna at 07:00, and actual sleep.
