Sarlat Truffle Festival
Sarlat Truffle Festival takes place Mid-Jan 2027 weekend (dates TBC; 2026 edition ran Jan 17 - 18) in Sarlat-la-Caneda, France. The dress code is Warm winter layers, coat, scarf and sturdy shoes for cold cobbled streets. Free to attend; budget up to 80 EUR per person for hospitality and extras.

A midwinter homage to the Perigord black truffle in one of France's best-preserved medieval towns: a certified truffle market, chef demonstrations, truffle-hunting displays with trained dogs, and producer stalls filling Sarlat's golden-stone squares. It is the atmospheric, unhurried counterpart to Alba's white-truffle circus. January cold, wood smoke and tuber melanosporum - the Dordogne at its most seductive.

Paid truffle-tasting menus and workshops are booked through participating restaurants and the tourist office programme. The 2026 edition has passed; plan for the 2027 weekend.
The truffle market and demonstrations in the old town are free with no ticket; paid tasting menus are arranged directly with Sarlat restaurants and the tourist office.
Insider tip
Watch the trained truffle dogs demonstrate a hunt, then buy from the certified market stalls where every truffle has been inspected - never from unofficial sellers in the lanes.
