Garma Festival
Garma Festival takes place Late July to early August 2027 (dates TBC) in East Arnhem Land, Australia. The dress code is Respectful casual with cultural sensitivity; sun protection, closed shoes and warm layers for cool nights - full camping gear required. Typical cost ranges from 800 to 2000 EUR per person.

Australia's largest and most significant Indigenous cultural gathering, hosted by the Yolngu people at the Gulkula ceremonial site in remote northeast Arnhem Land. The 26th Garma runs Jul 31 - Aug 3, 2026 under the theme 'Bukmak' (Everyone), pairing bunggul dance, art and song with a key national policy forum. Attendance is capped, camping-based and books out almost instantly.

How to attend
Tickets are sold through Sticky Tickets via the Yothu Yindi Foundation and go on sale in late February each year, selling out very quickly; adult passes start around AUD 295 with full-festival camping packages costing more. Fly to Nhulunbuy (Gove) in the NT; the Gulkula site is about 40 km away and accommodation is on-site camping included in festival packages. The 2026 edition is effectively sold out - plan for 2027's February release.
Tickets for the 2027 Garma have not been released - the Yothu Yindi Foundation puts them on sale in late February each year and they sell out within days.
Insider tip
Attend the daily bunggul at sunset - the ceremonial dance on the escarpment is the heart of Garma and the reason the trek to Arnhem Land is worth it.
