How to attend
Entry to the village and meeting Santa are both free, with no ticket required - fly or take the overnight train to Rovaniemi and catch the short bus or taxi out to the village, which is open daily. Paid extras (reindeer and husky rides, aurora hunts, the official Santa photograph, glass-igloo stays) run from around EUR 30 to several hundred and should be booked weeks or months ahead for December. Visit on a weekday and early in the day to dodge the coach groups.

Insider tip
Meeting Santa is free but the official photograph is not, and it is the only one allowed - go in the first hour after opening, before the tour coaches arrive and the queue becomes an hour long.
