Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest takes place Sep 19 - Oct 4, 2026 in Munich, Germany. The dress code is Casual; Tracht (dirndl or lederhosen) is welcomed and worn by most locals but never required. Typical cost ranges from 40 to 150 EUR per person.
The world's largest folk festival: sixteen days on Munich's Theresienwiese where million-litre beer tents meet a genuine Bavarian feast of roast chicken, pork knuckle, pretzels and Weisswurst. Each of the great tents has its own character, from brass-band tradition to celebrity-heavy party floors. Chaotic, enormous, and still authentically Bavarian underneath.

How to attend
Grounds entry is free with no ticket. To guarantee seats, request table reservations directly from each tent's website when books open early in the year - reservations come as food-and-beer vouchers for groups. Without one, arrive by mid-morning (earlier on weekends) before tents close at capacity; a typical day runs 40 - 150 EUR in beer and food.
Insider tip
Weekday lunchtime is the reliable walk-in window, and the Augustiner-Festhalle - pouring from wooden barrels - is the tent locals actually choose.
