A cult film festival founded by the Kaurismaki brothers in a small Lapland village 120 km above the Arctic Circle, screening films around the clock - including in a circus big-top - while the sun never sets. Legendary directors mingle informally with cinephiles who barely sleep for five days. The egalitarian marathon atmosphere is unlike any other festival; the next edition is expected in mid-June 2027.

Buy a full festival pass (roughly 130 - 150 EUR) or single-screening tickets (around 10 - 12 EUR) via msfilmfestival.fi when sales open in spring. Sodankyla is reached by flying to Rovaniemi or Ivalo then bus or car. Book the village's scarce rooms or the festival campsite months ahead.
