A biennial maritime festival in the Gulf of Morbihan in southern Brittany, where over 1,000 traditional and classic boats sail in organised flotillas between the gulf's islands and villages for a week. It is a heritage parade rather than a regatta, ending with a mass sail up to Vannes. Each host village lays on music, food and craft stalls, and the tidal narrows at the mouth of the gulf are the natural viewing points.

How to attend
Free to watch the daily flotillas from viewpoints all around the gulf - Port-Navalo, Arradon, Locmariaquer and the Ile-aux-Moines are the best - and from the festive host villages. Passenger boat trips and the grand final parade into Vannes give the closest views, and the daily itinerary is published on the official site in advance. Owners of traditional, classic or heritage craft can apply to join the flotillas through the organisers, with applications opening roughly a year ahead. Some village events and concerts are ticketed at modest prices.
Free to watch the daily flotillas from viewpoints around the gulf and from the host villages; the only paid extras are optional passenger boat trips booked locally.
Insider tip
Port-Navalo and the Pointe de Kerpenhir at Locmariaquer sit either side of the gulf's narrow mouth, where the tide funnels every flotilla past within shouting distance - go at the turn of the tide and you see the whole fleet twice.
