A months-long tented festival on the white salt flats of the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, where a temporary city of Swiss tents appears on the desert edge each winter. Guests get folk performances, camel and camel-cart safaris, handicraft bazaars selling Kutchi embroidery and mirror work, and full-moon nights on a horizon of pure white salt. Packages run from simple tents to premium desert villas.

How to attend
Book tent packages directly at rannutsav.com. Published rates start around INR 6,300 (roughly EUR 65) for one night and two days, rising to around INR 18,900 for three nights and four days, with premium Rajwadi and Darbari tents priced higher; meals are included. Day visitors who are not staying need a permit for the Rann, obtained at the Bhirandiyara checkpost on the road in. Fly to Bhuj and drive.
Insider tip
Go on or within two days of a full moon and walk out onto the salt after dark - the flats reflect the moonlight so completely that you lose the horizon entirely, which is the whole reason the festival exists.
