How to attend

Tickets are sold by the Royal Western India Turf Club. Public and grandstand entry is inexpensive, typically the equivalent of EUR 5 - 20, while members' and celebrity enclosures generally require a member's invitation or a corporate or sponsor package. Arrive early on Derby day as the enclosures fill. The course is central and easily reached by taxi from anywhere in south Mumbai.

The Royal Western India Turf Club has no online ticketing at all, so public and grandstand entry is bought in cash at the racecourse counters on the day, and the members' and celebrity enclosures need a member's invitation or a sponsor package.

Insider tip

Mahalaxmi is one of the last great open green spaces in central Mumbai and racing there only runs in the winter season - go early and walk the paddock, which is right in the middle of the city with skyscrapers on every side.
