A French-themed food-and-wine weekend in South Africa's Huguenot valley, where berets, barrel-rolling races and Cap Classique tastings take over the village of Franschhoek each Bastille Day weekend. It is winter in the winelands at its most charming - roaring fires, long lunches and Gallic flair grafted onto Cape gastronomy.

How to attend

Buy the main day pass (around R450 in 2026, including a wine glass and tasting tokens; 18+ only) or the premium upgrade via franschhoekbastille.co.za or Webtickets. Franschhoek is about 75 minutes from Cape Town; the hop-on Wine Tram runs during the weekend. Open to all, but accommodation in the small village sells out well ahead.

Tickets for the July 2027 anniversary edition are not on sale yet - the official box office page still covers the 2026 festival.

Insider tip

Ride the Franschhoek Wine Tram between cellar doors instead of driving - it runs special festival routes and lets both of you actually enjoy the Cap Classique.
