Faerderseilasen (Faerder Race), Oslo, Norway, Jun 11 - 12, 2027 (second weekend of June; the 2026 edition ran Jun 12 - 13)

One of the world's largest overnight regattas, sending many hundreds of boats from Oslo down the fjord, around the Faerder lighthouse and back, organised by the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club. It is a national summer ritual as much as a race, mixing professional crews with families who do it once a year. Watching several hundred sails leave Oslo at once in near-endless June daylight is the whole point.

How to attend

Watching the Friday afternoon start along Aker Brygge and the Oslo waterfront is free and needs no planning beyond arriving early for a spot. To sail, register a boat or find a crew berth via manage2sail; Norwegian sailing club membership and basic offshore safety kit are expected. Charity berths are sometimes offered through partner organisations, which is the most reliable route in for a visitor without a boat.

Watching the Friday afternoon start along Aker Brygge and the Oslo waterfront is free and needs no ticket; the only registration is boat entry through manage2sail for crews with club membership and offshore safety kit.

Insider tip

The Friday afternoon start off Aker Brygge is the shot everyone wants, but Verdens Ende at the tip of Tjome is where you see boats actually racing rather than milling about.
