The DP World Tour's flagship championship, played on the West Course at Wentworth Club in Surrey, a heathland classic reworked by Ernie Els. It draws the strongest European field of the season outside the majors and carries a garden-party atmosphere, with corporate marquees along the closing holes and a heavily attended celebrity pro-am mid-week. The uphill par-5 18th delivers the loudest finish in British golf outside The Open.

How to attend
Buy tickets in advance through the DP World Tour's official channels; the standalone bmwpga.com address no longer resolves, so start at dpworldtour.com and follow the tournament link. Under-16s are typically free with a paying adult and the Wednesday pro-am is the cheapest day. Hospitality suites sell out months ahead, and on-site parking is prepaid only.
The tournament no longer has a website of its own and the DP World Tour's ticket pages would not open for us, so there is no booking link we can stand behind - search for the BMW PGA Championship on dpworldtour.com nearer the September dates.
Insider tip
The Wednesday celebrity pro-am is the cheapest ticket of the week and the only day the ropes come down enough to walk beside the groups - and the train from London Waterloo to Virginia Water beats the notorious A30 car park queue.
